MOUNT LEMMON (KGUN9-TV) - It was a gruesome discovery miles above Tucson, a badly decomposed body discovered on Mount Lemmon.
Initially deputies tell 9OYS they were only able to label those remains as 'human' because the body was wearing a brown cable knit sweater and scarf.
This happened near the Marshall Gulch trail, which begins where the road cutting through Summer Haven ends.
The unsuspecting hikers were exploring in the area around 5 p.m. Wednesday when they stumbled upon the remains.
The few still left on the mountain Wednesday evening said the news is troubling.
"It's pretty shocking and unexpected," said Monique Ceballos de Lara. "We've only seen a couple of hikers and maybe three cars passing by so not a very busy area today."
We are still waiting on several details, including gender and the identification of the body.
No word on how long the remains have been at that location, though deputies say the sweater and scarf lead them to believe the person may have made that trip to the mountain during the cooler months.
