TUCSON (KGUN9-TV)-- Here's news that could cause some queasiness in meat lovers. The price of bacon is now at its highest point in 30 years.
It's because of a combination of high demand and a shortage of healthy pigs.
Last year, a virus killed millions of pigs in farms across more than 30 states. The lack of pork product has now placed bacon at about $6.11 a pound.
We're also in the midst of what's being called bacon mania in the food world. The payment company 'Square' reported that last month bacon was the most popular burger and sandwich topping in five major cities.
