Back-to-School: Free immunizations, dental and vision screenings in Tucson
TUCSON (KGUN-9) -- The first day school is fast approaching and once again El Rio is helping to get kids ready.
July 19th was the first of three free immunization clinics at Boys and Girls Clubs locations throughout Tucson. Health officials say immunizations are important to avoid school-wide outbreaks.
"In the past year we had a significant outbreak of whooping cough and it's one of the vaccines that we use to prevent that disease," said Dr. Andrew Arthur of El Rio.
Kids -- 5 to 18 years of age -- can also get their vision and teeth checked. El Rio is also giving out donated back-packs while they last and free booster seats for younger kids.
If you missed the July 19th event -- two others will be held from 10 AM to 2 PM on July 26th at the Holmes Tuttle Clubhouse on E. 36th street and on August 2nd at the Roy Drachman Clubhouse on Santa Clara road.
