Authorities up DUI checks near graduation

By Christina Myers. CREATED May 16, 2014
Tucson police and Pima County sheriffs are cracking down on drunk drivers near graduation.
Tucson police have set up a checkpoint in the city Friday night and sheriffs have another checkpoint scheduled for Saturday.
The time and location cannot be disclosed so drivers cannot avoid the area on purpose.
Deputy Tracy Suitt said there is a "zero tolerance policy" when it comes to drunk drivers. Anyone found to be drunk at these checkpoints or by other deputies out on patrol will be arrested.
"We're also going to be going to any and all parties that may have underage drinkers, and all people under the age of 21 that are caught with alcohol in their systems will be arrested," said Suitt.
Anyone caught serving alcohol to minors will also face charges under the Social Host law.
Authorities step-up DUI patrols in this time because of graduation. Tens of thousands of people flock to Tucson and are expected to be celebrating, which increases the risk for drunk driving accidents.
