TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The gavel will be passed to a new chief justice at the Arizona Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch will hand the gavel over to Vice Chief Justice Scott Bales next month.
Bales will be sworn in as the new head of the state's highest court during a June 27 ceremony at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort in Tucson.
Bales' new role will take effect July 1 and he will serve a five-year term.
Berch will continue as a justice on the court.
Justice John Pelander will become the new vice chief justice.
The event will conclude the 2014 Judicial Conference, which is expected to draw 700 judges from various courts.
