ADOT offers tips for winter driving in Arizona
PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Department of Transportation is warning drivers to be careful in the mountains as the winter season approaches.
The agency says that because of the state's diverse climate and terrain, drivers can find themselves in sunny weather in the low desert, then in icy conditions in the mountains within a few hours.
ADOT recommends drivers plan for extra travel time and slow down when winter conditions exist. The agency also is warning drivers to be cautious on bridges where ice can form and to stay back from snowplows.
To plan for possibly getting stuck in snow, ADOT advises drivers to carry plenty of food and water, along with tire chains or cables.
And before heading out, the agency says drivers should always check the weather conditions.
