9/11 anniversary being marked with somber tributes
NEW YORK (AP) - Families and friends of those who died at the World Trade Center 12 years ago today have been milling around the memorial site in lower Manhattan today, making rubbings of names and leaving flowers in memory of the victims.
They gathered again today to mark the anniversary of the terror attacks, as similar events were held at the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
In New York, A moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. marked the moment when the first plane hit the twin towers on a clear, sunny day in 2001. Then, families of the victims started reading aloud the names of those who died.
Christina Aceto read the name of her father, Richard Anthony Aceto. She says she misses her father every day.
Around the world, thousands of volunteers have pledged to do good deeds today, honoring an anniversary that was designated a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
