TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - New reports obtained by 9 On Your Side show that the 3-year-old boy, whose remains were found in a toy chest, may have starved to death.
According to the Interim Complaint filed against Raquel Barreras by a Tucson Police Officer, when officers arrived at the home, the children told police their mother "starved [the] child until death and put child in [a] toy chest in backyard."
The report says Raquel Barreras "denied any involvement."
The officer continued by writing that the 19-year-old daughter of Raquel and Martin Barreras stated "Raquel responsible although did not state how, but knew child was in backyard."
A similar account was written in the Interim Complaint filed against Martin Barreras. The officer wrote that Martin "admitted to confronting Raquel about her actions but did nothing further to stop her from starving [the] child."
Tucson Police tells KGUN9 they are still waiting for the Medical Examiner's report to determine the cause of death.
Raquel Barreras was charged with first degree murder and child abuse. Her husband Martin was charged with Child Abuse.
