PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Authorities are trying to find the owner of a dog that was dropped off at animal care over the weekend with serious injuries.

Officials with Pinal County tell KGUN9 the dog's chain collar was so tight around her neck that her skin was growing around the collar.

The female mixed-breed cattle dog was dropped off at the animal shelter sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning after the shelter had closed.

A supervisor was notified after a staff member found the dog, and treatment immediately began to address the dog's injuries.

Authorities say the dog has responded well to treatment and is now in a foster home for continued wound treatment.

She is not yet available for adoption as she needs further care.

Anyone with tips or who may know this dog's history or owners is asked to email

The Pinal County Animal Care and Control says metal collars and chains are not good for animals because they can get too hot in the heat and burn the animal's flesh. They recommend collars made from woven nylon, cloth or leather.
