Tucson Water warns of phone scam

By Rikki Mitchell. CREATED Jun 11, 2013

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson Water is warning its customers of a possible phone scam involving its water service.

Fernando Molina with Tucson Water tells KGUN9 that the company has received complaints from customers who said they were contacted by phone and asked to provide certain information, or their water service would be shut off.

The callers falsely identified themselves as employees of Tucson Water.

Customers said the person calling used the name "Sarah" and it sounded like someone was prompting the caller from the background.

The caller said the customers' account was past due and they needed to provide payment.

Tucson Water says its policy is to provide a written notification of account delinquency or service interruption using regular mail service. The company does not request payment information over the phone.

Customers can verify their account and status of service information by contacting customer service at 520-791-3242.
