Poisoning leading cause of Arizona injury deaths
PHOENIX (AP) - Poisonings account for the largest share of the injury deaths in Arizona.
That's according to the state Department of Health Services.
The department says poisonings in 2011 resulted in 1,144 deaths, or a quarter of the total injury-related deaths in Arizona.
The most common causes of poisoning deaths in Arizona in 2011 were alcohol, painkillers and heroin.
The department says poisonings also caused more than 6,900 hospitalizations and 12,500 emergency room visits in 2011.
