TUCSON(KGUN9-TV) - Vandals strike again. This time, snatching tools from a shiny new set up.
Last week, Pima County put in brand new bike repair stations along the Rillito and Santa Cruz river paths. It took vandals less than a week to ruin it for everyone.
According to Pima County Parks and Recreation representatives, sometime over the Memorial Day weekend vandals clipped wires and took repair tools.
There are six "fix it" stations in all along the Rillito and Santa Cruz River paths.
"I thought this is really cool and I wondered how long it's going to be until some knuckle head tries to vandalize it," Eric Ritter said while stoped along the Rillito River path during a bike ride.
"Sure, I'm a taxpayer and I don't like to see that stuff happening," another biker said.
Pima County Parks and Recreation staffers say they'll replace the tools.
"We're exploring other security systems for protecting the tools on these stands. We're looking at perhaps a camera system," Pima County communications coordinator Mary Reynolds said.
The camera systems would be monitored. Police would be dispatched if someone shows up at the part after hours.
"It also comes down to other people watching what's happening," Reynolds added.
