Prosecutors seek 1-year prison sentence for Junker

PHOENIX (AP) - Federal prosecutors are seeking a one-year prison sentence for former Fiesta Bowl chief executive John Junker for his admitted involvement in an illegal campaign contribution scheme.
The Arizona Republic reports that the sentence prosecutors are seeking was revealed in court filings last week.
Junker is set to be sentenced June 24 in federal court and faces sentencing in July on a state charge involving the same activities.
He was fired for his part in a conspiracy in which bowl employees were reimbursed for political-campaign donations.
Prosecutors argue Junker should do time because he led other employees to break the law.
Junker's attorney says his client should receive no prison time because he assisted in the state's ongoing investigation and some campaign-finance laws relevant to the matter were struck down.
