TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Stroke is something we associate with older males, but studies show women are affected by it even more than men. Nearly 800,000 Americans suffer a stroke very year, but 55,000 more women than men are hit by the debilitating condition each year.

In a stroke, brain tissue is damaged due to a lack of blood flow. Stroke often affects the victims ability to speak and move, but can also be fatal. Doctors say knowing the symptoms of stroke can be life saving.

Doctors at Tucson Medical Center say a drooping smile or the inability of the victim to hold arms and hands level can be indications of a stroke. Experts recommend taking the victim to the hospital as soon as possible for treatment to avoid even more complications and physical damage.
