TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A teenager who accidentally shot his friend in the face Wednesday has been charged with minor in possession of a firearm, a class 6 felony.

Sgt. Chris Widmer with Tucson Police tells KGUN9 that the teen was cited and released to his parents.

Widmer says that a man called 9-1-1 after he was approached outside his home in the 9800 block of East Banbridge Street Wednesday.

The homeowner told police a teenager walked up to him and said he had been shot in the head, said Widmer.

Tucson Fire transported the teenager to a local hospital.

The victim is still in the hospital. He had surgery Thursday, but is expected to survive the shooting.

Police temporarily placed Desert Sky Middle School on lock-down while they searched the area for a potential shooter.
