A Dying Wish: Horse rescuer Judy Glore's family needs help to grant it

By Valerie Cavazos. CREATED May 14, 2013

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -  Judy Glore's family is keeping her mission alive of rescuing abused horses. The founder of Heart of Tucson Horse Rescue lost her battle with lung cancer on Mother's Day. But now her family is hoping to grant Judy's dying wish -- and soon.

Judy Glore never asked for anything -- for herself -- only for the horses she deeply loved. She told KGUN9 back in September that, "I'd rather ask for the animals, so that they're taken care of."

But in the final moments of Judy Glore's life, she asked her family for one thing -- one important thing -- for herself. "Her last wishes was that she wanted to be buried. She wasn't a fan of cremation," said her daughter, Terra Contessa Flores.

And for this reason in particular. She wanted to be buried next to her brother at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. "Her and her brother are really close. And she lost him a long time ago -- and that was her request," said Terra.

So for the woman who gave her life to others, the family is working hard to give her that last wish.
But it could take several thousand dollars to cover "all" the funeral costs. The family expects several hundred people to say their final goodbyes. Terra said, "Her phone has been ringing off the hook. We expect a huge crowd. I mean mom has an amazing following."

Terra said it's been hard the last few days, her mother's death really hasn't set in yet. "I think she's kind of holding us together till we get what we need to get done," she said.

Judy once said that she believed miracles happen. Terra said they need one now. "She's waiting to be buried. And it's extremely time sensitive. Hopefully we can get the funds raised in the next couple of days."

And perhaps even in a day -- as a gift -- to celebrate her life. "Today (May 14th) is her birthday. Happy birthday, Mom," she said.

If you'd like to donate -- The Judy Glore Memorial Fund has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank. The family said, "What's left (after the funeral expenses) will be used by the Heart of Tucson."
