"Got some nerve to come back": Mother on suspect who stole car with child inside

By Alexis Fernandez. CREATED Apr 28, 2013

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - For the past two days, Jacquelyn Ortega and her family have been on high alert.

This after someone stole her vehicle from her fiance with their three-year-old son in it.

"You never think it's going to happen to you and it's really scary... but that's all I can really say, we just keep watching everything," she told 9OYS.

Luckily the suspect abandoned the vehicle and her son was unharmed.

She says a valuable lesson was learned though.

"It's really hard to feel like we made the mistake of leaving the vehicle on -- that morning the temperature had dropped, so we thought just warm it up, no big deal," she said.

But now, a new worry.

"Everything has just been really nerve-wracking, don't want to stay home I don't want to be here by myself," she continued.

As they believe the suspect is back in the neighborhood.

Her fiance, Juan Ramirez, who got a glimpse of the man says while he was out searching for their missing dog this morning, he saw him.

9OYS's Alexis Fernandez asked:

"Did you expect a couple days later for the suspect to come back?

"No, especially not in broad daylight," she answered.

And now they want the public's help to find him.

"We just want answers, somebody to come forward if they know anything and let us know so we can get him off the streets so he doesn't hurt anybody else," she said.

Some neighbors are also on guard.

"It makes me very scared, like I said I have a three and five-year-old that live here with me and I'm a full time student," said Stephanie Michaelson.

Police are searching the area for a Caucasian man in his mid-30's that is approximately 6-feet-tall with a thin build and shaved head.

Anyone with information is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
