WEST, Texas (AP) - Rescuers are searching the smoldering ruins of a fertilizer plant near Waco, Texas, for survivors of an explosion that brought down homes and businesses in every direction.
As many as 15 people are feared dead, with more than 160 others injured.
The blast shook the ground with the strength of a small earthquake, and it could be heard dozens of miles away.
Waco Police Sgt. William Patrick Swanton says he doesn't know how many people have been rescued. But he says officials on the ground remain in "search and rescue mode," going building to building in the largely decimated neighborhood surrounding the plant.
