TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A half-billion people visit Yahoo! every month. What exactly are they searching for? As 2012 comes to a close, let's take a look back at the top online searches of the past 12 months.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the number one spot goes to the word "elections," which was searched more than any other term in 2012. The stats indicate that users got bit by the political bug, as the term "political polls" was ranked number eight.

Number two on the list goes to "iPhone 5," which was released by Apple in September.

Celebrities Kim Kardashian, Kate Upton and Kate Middleton round out the top searched list.

Following Monday's announcement that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting her first child with Prince William, more than a million people have searched for her name.
