TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A rollover accident involving two vehicles left one 18-year-old woman dead and two others injured early Sunday morning near a lookout in Gates Pass.
Capt. Adam Goldberg with Northwest Fire tells KGUN9 that Marymar Martinez-Duran was taken to University of Arizona Medical Center where she died of her injuries from the accident. Two other 18-year-olds were also taken to the UAMC where they are in stable condition.
William Pina, 18, was driving the car carrying the three women and was arrested on charges of manslaughter, aggravated assault, endangerment, and DUI.
Deputy Renee Carlson with the Pima County Sheriff's says five friends had been drinking at a lookout near Gates Pass Road near Speedway and were heading back to Tucson when they started racing with another car with a single driver.
The driver of the other car was going over 80 mph in a 35 mph zone. At about 1:45 am, while passing each other in a no passing zone, both drivers lost control of the cars causing them to crash into several trees before rolling over.
The other driver has not been charged at this time.
