TUCSON (Arizona Athletics). - The defending national champion University of Arizona baseball team will play an exhibition game against the Los Angels of Anaheim instructional league team on Thursday, Oct. 4, at Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.

Arizona will travel its full fall roster to the game, against the Angels instructional league team that features some of the organization's top minor league prospects. The game will be free to attend and is expected to be a nine-inning affair, followed by autograph opportunities with the Wildcats after the game.

The exhibition matchup was arranged by Arizona alumnus and current Angels owner, Arte Moreno, and UA head coach Andy Lopez, who was named national coach of the year this past summer. The Andy Lopez Baseball Academy will also host a pair of camps at Tempe Diablo Stadium on Oct. 6-7. Age groups for the camps are 4th-7th grade and 8th-10th grade.

"This will be a great opportunity for some of younger guys to gain experience early in the fall against some very talented players," Lopez said. "It's a unique situation to have an opportunity like this before we even practice as a team, but it will be valuable to our players and something they can enjoy. We hope our fans, especially those in the Phoenix area, can come out and enjoy this experience with us."

The Wildcats have spent the month of September in "skill hours" sessions. Official fall team practices will begin on Oct. 8.

Arizona's 2013 season is slated to begin on Friday, Feb. 15, against Coppin State. The complete season schedule is expected to be announced by the end of this month.
