SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Officers in Sierra Vista are reminding the public to secure houses and vehicles because of a 10 percent increase in burglaries over the past two months, according to Tina Moore, a spokeswoman with the Sierra Vista Police Department.

Moore tells KGUN9 that officers have said several of the burglaries were made easier when doors or windows were left unlocked.

The department reminds the public to lock up houses and cars, even for a short period of time.

Also, removing items from view with reduce temptation for criminals to target a house or car.

Officers suggest locking valuables in the trunk when parking a car.

The SVPD also provides a free burglary inspection for houses, where the department will inspect a home and provide detailed recommendations on how to better secure a house.

Call SVPD at 520-425-7500 to request an inspection.
