NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - Federal authorities say a Mexican man is in custody after allegedly trying to smuggle about $183,000 worth of narcotics into southern Arizona.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred 23-year-old Alfonso M. Cuevas for inspection of his pickup truck Wednesday when he attempted to enter the U.S. through the Dennis DeConcini Port.
After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs, officers discovered nearly 26 pounds of marijuana and 11 pounds of methamphetamine.
Authorities say Cuevas was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations. The drugs and vehicle were seized.
