PHOENIX (AP) - Leonard Abel makes sure things run on time, and it runs in his family.
The 76-year-old Abel is a horologist, a clockmaker and repairman. With his son Dee and grandson Daniel, he operates Abel Clock Co. in Mesa. It's a family business with 128 years of experience fixing and selling time pieces.
Abel's grandfather George founded the company in St. Louis in 1884.
The business survived the Great Depression, relocated to El Paso, Texas, and then to Mesa. A fire forced them out of their shop in Granite Reef Plaza more than two months ago and they relocated to a shopping center.
The Arizona Republic says that with Daniel starting his apprenticeship last November, the company has employed five generations of the Abel family.
