GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a woman has been found dead after falling over the edge of the South Rim at Grand Canyon National Park.
Park officials say witnesses reported seeing the woman fall over the edge at Grandview Point shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.
Emergency responders determined that the woman had actually fallen about 300 feet below the Grandview Trail and began hiking down.
Rangers tried to give her CPR, but officials say efforts were unsuccessful.
The woman's body was flown to the canyon rim by helicopter and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office.
Her name, age and hometown weren't immediately released.
An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service.
