TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A fire in the carport of a home just off Columbus Boulevard this morning grew quickly, threatening the attached house.

Cpt. Barrett Baker with Tucson Fire Department tells KGUN9 that a jogger was passing near the house in the early morning hours and noticed smoke. The jogger went to the door of the house and knocked, waking the occupants who quickly found that the fire was located in the carport of the house next door.

9-1-1 was called and the neighbors knocked on the door of the involved home to wake the occupant. That person exited the structure without injury.

Tucson Fire Department says the origin of the fire was a water heater stored in a shed.

An estimated $70,000 in damage was caused by the fire, which is under investigation.
