TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A former federal agent in Arizona has been sentenced to 2½ years in prison for abusing her access to law-enforcement databases.
Jovana Deas was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in Tucson. She faced up to a 10-year term.
The 33-year-old Deas pleaded guilty in February to obstruction of justice and other federal violations.
Deas was a Homeland Security Investigations special agent based in Nogales. She was a port inspector in Nogales from 2003 to 2007.
Prosecutors say Deas admitted to abusing her position to illegally obtain and spread government documents classified as official use only.
They say Deas further admitted she illegally accessed, stole, and transferred sensitive U.S. government documents to unauthorized individuals. Authorities also say Deas obstructed Homeland Security Investigations.
