WASHINGTON (KGUN9-TV) - Ron Barber was sworn in as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives today in Washington D.C.

Congressman Barber, a Democrat, won a special election to succeed former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.  Barber served as Gifford's District Director during her time in office.

Barber defeated Republican Jesse Kelly with about 52 percent of the vote to Kelly's 46 percent.

Kelly lost to Giffords in 2010 by a small margin.
