New false alarm ordinance

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The City of Tucson Mayor and City Council approved a new alarm ordinance earlier this year that requires all private and business alarm customers within the city limits of Tucson to register their alarms with the Tucson Police Department.

This ordinance goes into effect on April 1, 2012. There is an annual $20 registration fee, which will remain valid for 365 days, from the date of payment. The $20 is a cost recovery measure for the police department.

Fees for false alarms have been substantially reduced and violations of the alarm ordinance will no longer be cited in City Court. Instead, an assessment invoice will be sent to the alarm user. While alarm registration is a mandatory City ordinance in addition to being strongly recommended, alarm owners do have an option to “opt out” of registering, but to do so will be to forego police response on any and all burglary alarms and will thus result in higher false alarm fees, should police officers respond to false alarms.

Alarm customers may register their alarms on-line at and click on “Alarm Information.” Currently, on-line payment options are not available at this time, but payments may be made in person at the following locations:
