Border group to give award to famous singer

TUCSON (AP) - Singer Linda Ronstadt is set to receive an award for her defense of immigrant rights, opposing SB 1070 as well as criticism of the actions of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
The Tucson group BorderLinks will honor Ronstadt Sunday in Sahuarita.The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 17750 S. La Canada Rd.

BorderLinks Executive Director Fernanda Morillon says Ronstadt is a woman from the borderlands who has spoken out courageously in support of human rights.
BorderLinks is described by its organizers as a binational, nonprofit organization based in both Tucson and Nogales, Mexico, marking its 25th anniversary.

Guadalupe Palomares will also receive the Esperanza y Paz (Hope and Peace) award. Palomares has been recognized for her work with low-income communities in Nogales, Sonora.
