TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Women in one eastside community are on high alert after two separate purse snatchings. The attacks happened just days apart in the same shopping center along 22nd St. and Old Spanish Trail. What's most concerning is two different sets of culprits are believed to be responsible. The attacks happened in broad daylight.

9OYS reporter Marcelino Benito went to the area to talk to concerned women. Before learning about the crimes, women said they rarely thought twice about keeping a watchful eye on their purses.

"I tend to be trusting," Kathy Martin said. "I'll put my bags away and leave my purse in the cart. Things like that."

The first attack happened Monday outside the Starbucks on 22nd and Old Spanish Trail. A victim in her 20's was assaulted and taken down right in front of the coffee shop. Off camera the victim tells 9OYS she needed five stitches on her face. Just three days later, different attackers assaulted an elderly woman near the Target. Both women's purses were snatched. The news is making women think twice.

"It is disappointing," said Monique Kundrat. "I love to come out and sit outside, often times I walk alone with my dog. I do a lot of that and I do feel now I want to carry something with me to protect myself."

Police say it's important to be alert and aware of the surroundings when out and about. Women 9OYS talked to today say they'll definitely be more cautious until the culprits are caught.

Tucson Police is still looking for the people responsible in both cases. Three Hispanic males in their 20's are believed to be responsible for Monday's attack. Three African American males and one even one female are believed to be culprits in Thursday's attack. Please call 911 or 88-crime with any information that can help.
