SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Sierra Vista authorities are warning residents to be on high alert after a home invasion occurred Sunday between 3 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., with armed robbers posing as police.

Carol Capas with the Cochise County Sheriff's department says four male suspects wearing masks approached a home in a neighboorhood on Sierra Vista's northwest side.

The suspects unscrewed the front porch light bulb,  pounded on the front door, saying they were Sierra Vista Police and to open the door, according to authorities.

Once the residents opened their front door, four men armed with machetes and knives pushed their way in and demanaded cash and valuables from the residents. The suspects then fled the scene in a white sedan, according to Capas.

Authorities in Sierra Vista want the public to know that this incident has occurred and to be aware.

Authorities say Do Not Open Your Door unless you know exactly who it is. Authorities recommend calling 911 if someone claims to be the police, verify that it is in fact true and safe to open the door.

Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding this matter to call 911.
