PHOENIX (AP) - A proposed initiative measure filed Friday would impose a one-cent sales tax increase for education, health care and other state services, with the increase taking effect after a three-temporary increase expires in mid-2013.
Supporters must collect at least 172,809 voter signatures by July 5 to qualify the measure for the state's November general election ballot.
Arizona voters in 2010 approved the temporary increase at the urging of Gov. Jan Brewer. She said it was needed to help the state cope with revenue losses during the Great Recession.
