TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The quick response from Northwest Fire has saved a home following a carport fire.

Cpt. Adam Goldberg with Northwest Fire tells KGUN9 that crews responded to 431 W. Calle Lago near Rudasill and Oracle Roads when Northwest Fire received a 9-1-1 call from the homeowner after an unidentified passer-by alerted the occupants to the fire.

When crews arrived, they found a fire from a full sized pick-up truck that was extending to the roof of the  carport and heading towards the house that was within feet of the burning car.

An 84-year-old woman and her 41-year-old nephew evacuated the home safely before crews arrived.

The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental as a result of a mechanical failure under the hood of the truck.
