TUCSON (KGUN9- TV) - It's a day for fun and family, but for many, it will be just another work day.  Several businesses and restaurants will remain open on Christmas day this year.  It's something that's met with mixed opinions.

"It's great because some of the stores are really hard to find that are open, it really helps a lot of people," said Paula Shannon, who plans to spend the day at home with her family.

"I think they should be closed," said Malisa Grantham, "I think they should give their employees the day off."

Most movie theaters remain open to show the latest blockbusters and new releases, which this year includes War Horse, opening Christmas day.

Starbuck's will also keep the coffee coming until 4pm at most locations.

And, for more than 100 years, Walgreens has kept its doors open on the holiday to accommodate last-minute shoppers.

"It's all about convenience," said Walgreens manager Mary Duffy, "pharmacies will be open at our 24-hour stores, last minute gifts, taking a box of chocolate to grandma's, batteries for all the kids toys that you forgot to buy today."

She says the extra work and even the holiday salaries pay off.

"Our stores are busy non-stop all day," she said, "it's a very busy day for us."

Walgreens will be open until 6pm.  Several CVS locations will be open from 10a.m to 2pm.   Fast food restaurants including Jack-in-the-Box and 24-hour chains like IHOP and Denny's will also be open in some locations.
