Jake Owen family time will dominate holidays

It's been a whirlwind year for Jake Owen, and this week he's celebrating the release of his fourth studio album, "Days of Gold." While he's looking ahead to the new year, the Florida native is also taking time to reflect on all that's taken place in his life over the past couple of years, including marriage to model Lacey Buchanan, and the birth of their daughter Olive Pearl, born on Thanksgiving Day 2012.

With all of the changes he's experienced in his life during the making of his latest album, Jake says it's a wonder the album didn't have a different title.

"I think that everyone thought that after I had a child my new album was gonna be called "I'm Married, With a Kid," Jake tells FOX 411 Country with a laugh. Although he does acknowledge that with more time to write songs, his material will be penned from his own perspective.

"My daughter's a year old and being married has been great for me," he says. "It's really changed my life as far as where I am in my mind and personally. But I don't think it has changed my music."

Jake plans to spend the holidays with family he rarely gets a chance to see, including his twin brother, Jarrod, and their dad, who battled cancer throughout the year and is now cancer-free.

"We all say that life is short but no one ever lives by that. It's important for me, now that I have the opportunity, to take the time off at the end of the year. It's always funny because as much as I can't wait for the time off, I find myself looking forward to getting back out on the stage."

Jake spent much of 2013 opening stadium shows for Jason Aldean and Kenny Chesney. Next year, he'll headline his own shows.
