Woman faces charges for auto theft after leaving accident
Wichita police have a 29-year-old woman in custody for auto theft after two traffic accidents in the south part of the city.
Lieutenant James Espinoza said two cars collided at MacArthur and Alfalfa just after 5 p.m. Monday. A van pulled up and the 62-year-old driver got out to help, and a woman from one of the crash vehicles jumped into the van and drove off.
Espinoza said 911 received a number of calls about the stolen van, which was going west in the eastbound lanes of Pawnee when it hit a sign and a utility pole at Minnesota. The woman was arrested by officers who were called to the second crash.
Police said a 7-year-old boy and a 32-year-old woman had potentially serious injuries from the first accident on MacArthur, and a third person had minor injuries.
