Wichita man dies after chasing father's stolen truck
Police say a 25-year-old Wichita man has died of injuries he received early Saturday when he and his brother tried to stop a stolen truck. The man was identified as Shawn Palmer.
Palmer and his 28-year-old brother saw their father's pickup at a convenience store at MacArthur and Meridian early Saturday morning, and they knew it had been stolen. They went up to talk to the driver, but he sped away. Police lieutenant Randy Reynolds said the brothers jumped onto the truck to try to stop the driver, but both were thrown off.
Shawn Palmer died Sunday of his injuries, and the brother was treated and later released.
Reynolds said the truck was found in a field a short time later, and a 34-year-old man was taken into custody. The Sedgwick County district attorney's office will determine the charges to be filed.
Reynolds said he understands why people would want to recover stolen property, but it's best to call police and let them handle it rather than taking action.
