Spirit makes close to 200 offers after job fair
Officials with Spirit AeroSystems say the company has extended about 190 offers for factory jobs at the Wichita plant as a result of a weekend job fair.
The company estimates between 2,500 and 3,000 people attended Saturday's job fair, and more interviews are being conducted this week. Some additional offers are expected to be made for jobs that will begin in the next 90 days. The company says it's continuing to accept resumes. People who could not attend the job fair can stil apply online through the company's website.
Spirit plans to ramp up production work on the Boeing 737 and 787, as demand for commercial aircraft continues to rise.
The company has laid off more than 500 workers - mainly engineers, managers and salaried positions - during the past year.
