City prepares for winter storm
The City of Wichita has activated their snow emergency response plan in preparation for this weekend's forecasted storm.
Joe Pajor with Wichita's Public Works and Utilities Department said the department started treating roads Tuesday.
"We are able to use a brine solution, which we put down in advance of the storm," he said. "This allows us to treat roads before the storm. The brine solution is effective for up to five days."
Pajor said road crews will begin their snow emergency response plan at midnight Friday and continue through Saturday. He said they will have 50 trucks on rotating, 12-hour shifts, and remain operating as needed throughout the weekend.
Pajor reminded property owners it is illegal to shovel snow and ice onto public streets.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down in icy conditions and allow themselves extra space to stop, Pajor said. He said to stay away from safety equipment on the roads.
