The date and track listing for the Doobie Brothers' previously-announced duets album with a long list of country stars has been revealed.
The album, "Southbound," will be released November 4, Sony Music Nashville announced on Thursday. According to Rolling Stone Country, it "mixes the reverence of a tribute album with the back-and-forth collaboration of a duets record, as the Doobies share vocals and trade instrumental duties on 12 new recordings of their own hits. ... Each country artist takes the reins for one song, sharing vocal leads with either Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald or Patrick Simmons — the Doobie Brothers' three frontmen."
The set features Zac Brown Band, Chris Young, Blake Shelton, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Sara Evans and several other artists performing on such Doobie Brothers hits as “Black Water,” “China Grove,” “Listen to the Music,” “Takin’ it to the Streets” and “Long Train Runnin’.” Vince Gill and Hunter Hayes don't sing on the album, but they each play guitar on one track. Michael McDonald returned to the Doobie Brothers for this project.
