In 2005, Kayla Michelle Finley, 27, rented the romantic comedy "Monster-In-Law" starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda from her local Dalton's Video store in Pickens County, S.C. Nine years later, Finley spent the night in jail after an arrest for not returning the three-day rental.
Finley had gone to the police to report a crime, and while logging her personal information into their system they found a warrant for her arrest.
According to the UK's Daily Mail, after sending multiple warning letters to Finley, "The business owner went to a Pickens County magistrate who issued an arrest warrant." And although the store, like most video stores, has since been closed, "outstanding warrants never expire." She was charged with "petit larceny and failing to return a rented video cassette."
Finley says that she never received those warnings. She was released from jail on a $2,000 bond.
