Joan Rivers has been hospitalized in critical condition after she stopped breathing on Thursday morning.
"A law enforcement official told CNN the comedienne stopped breathing during throat surgery," reports CNN. "Rivers, 81, was then rushed in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City."
The surgery was allegedly a procedure on her vocal chords.
Publicly open with her health, Rivers shared a medical scare with viewers last year on her and her daughter's reality show, "Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?" when doctors found a suspicious spot on an X-ray after she suffered a persistent cough. And many years before, in 2002, she was diagnosed with osteoporosis after she broke bones from falling down a set of stairs.
