WalMart nap leads to arrest of an Englewood man
ENGLEWOOD, Fla. - Charlotte County deputies arrested an Englewood man Sunday on a variety of charges including stealing a bicycle when he was found sleeping on bean bag chairs in a WalMart.
The victim who lives near Oceanspray Blvd. and Spinnaker Blvd. in Englewood, reported that someone had entered his garage, as well as one of his vehicles. While in the garage, it appeared that the intruder had tried to take a bicycle that had been hanging from the ceiling.
The victim reported that someone apparently had used a couple of cigarette lighters that had been in the vehicle to light a marijuana cigarette, based on the smell left in the car. The only item reported missing was a blue bicycle valued at more than $300 taken from the house.
The victim’s son spotted the missing bike in the bike rack at a WalMart located on McCall Road. He told store personnel who checked store surveillance video to see who had left the bike in the rack.
After viewing the video, WalMart personnel found 19-year-old Roy Peter Hornjak, asleep on bean bag chairs inside the store. He was asked to leave the store. Instead of leaving, Hornjak went to the Subway located inside WalMart and fell asleep at a table.
Deputies arrested Hornjak charging him with burglary of a dwelling, burglary of a structure, burglary of a conveyance, grand theft, and violation of probation.
