Update on wrongful arrest by Punta Gorda Police

By Dave Culbreth. CREATED Jan 9, 2014

 Punta Gorda, Fla. -

Four In Your Corner staying on top of the story of a Charlotte County woman wrongfully arrested by the Punta Gorda Police Department. Investigator Dave Culbreth has been combing through pages of documents. On December 27, Brandy Lowe was arrested by the Punta Gorda Police on a shoplifting warrant out of Lake County. It was for a woman with the same exact first, middle and last names.
The warrant had a social security number, date of birth, height, and weight on it.....but no picture. So, Lowe was arrested, sent to jail, and she says.....told that "the court will sort it out".
Her mother then did an internet search, found the Lake County Jails website and found a mug shot of the subject of the warrant. Putting the two side by side you can see they don't look alike. Lowe's mother then took the mug shot to the jail where someone realized the mistake and let her out. Last night we showed you emails and reports from the jail which clearly say the Punta Gorda Police wrongfully arrested Lowe. The police have said nothing except its investigating.
Thursday, FOX4 got some emails from the city that said a councilman has asked the city manager, "if the police chief will be working on a protocol that might have prevented the arrest of the wrong person." The answer is, the department is reviewing it.
