Trolley back to serve summer Art Walk

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A new service is giving a lift to Fort Myers' Art Walk.

The move could be exactly what business owners need to be able to thrive.
Friday night marked the first night for the trolley to run during the summer months of Art Walk.
Businesses found in the past when the trolley stops running as it typically does in the summer months, the customers stopped coming.
"I think it's great," said Patsy French. "Anything we can do to bring more business into Downtown is great."
French opened Ma Peggy's Emporium 8 months ago. She's new to Art Walk in a developing area just east of Downtown called 'Garden Park.'
The trolley running all year could help her new business thrive.
"Summer is the slow time for businesses, so the more we can do to support the businesses, we felt it was important," said Don Paight with the Community Redevelopment Agency.
The agency was able to dig up $1600 to keep the trolley running until October. The regular trolley during Season will pick up again in November.
"For the businesses that are really not quite within walking distance, like Fowler and Thompson Street, they really suffered," said Paight.
Now, the big green bus is bringing more 'green' right to these businesses' doorstep.

Art Walk runs the first Friday of every month from 6 to 10 p.m.
