ESTERO, Fla - A small tanker fuel truck caught fire around 9:30 a.m. on southbound I-75 shutting down the interstate from Alico Road south.

Southbound traffic has been halted for a second time as crews prepare to offload the remaining scene.  The highway initially closed for more than an hour.

Several firefighting crews descended on the scene and have been working at putting out the fire for more than an hour.

The Florida Department of Transportation says it will not known the extent of damage to the roadway by the fire until firefighters finish their work.

Drivers can reroute around the fire by taking either Ben Hill Griffith Road or Three Oaks Parkway to Corkscrew.
