FORT MYERS, Fla. - Suicide survivors in Southwest Florida are stepping out for a cause.
Saturday, C.A.R.E., Community Awareness in Recognizing and Educating on Suicide, held its annual suicide walk and run at Lakes Park. It's the only suicide walk in all of Southwest Florida.
From January to October this year, 92 people in Lee County committed suicide.
Event organizers say it's up to them to get together to help family members grieve and try to turn a tragedy into a positive.
"This is why we started this walk, so that we can get together, and we don't even have to say a word, we can just look at each other and know exactly what we're thinking," C.A.R.E Executive Director and Founder Virginia Cervasio, said. "Some of us are very new survivors, others have been at it for years, but we all share that common bond."
