LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - A crash involving a semi-truck and a SUV in Lehigh Acres Friday afternoon took the life of a man from Texas.

Lee County Sheriff's investigators say 22-year-old Clayton Hayes was driving east on 15th Street when he ran a stop sign while turning south onto Joel Boulevard.  His SUV was hit by a big rig driven by 43-year-old Jose Machin of Miami Gardens.

Hayes was killed on the scene while two passengers, Tyler and Taylor Messina, both 19, of Lehigh Acres, were critically injured.  Machin wasn't hurt.

Investigators say they haven't determined why Hayes ran the stop sign, but say Machin tried to avoid the collision.
