Bicyclist killed in South Fort Myers crash

SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - A crash involving a bicycle and a vehicle on Daniels Parkway and Cross Creek Boulevard killedy injured the cyclist and snarled traffic for more than an hour Sunday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol says 40-year-old Denny Rager of Fort Myers was driving west on Daniels at 11:15 a.m. when 61-year-old James Chelius of Fort Myers tried to cut across the street crossing from the right hand turn lane to the south.

The FHP says the bicyclist, Chelius, failed to yield to oncoming traffic and Rager could not avoid hitting the bicyclist.  Chelius later died at the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation
